AFIMDA was established by concerned Americans dedicated to enhancing the public dialogue on comprehensive missile defense in Israel. AFIMDA recognizes that -- in the wake of the Second Lebanon War -- Israel faces a new, and unprecedented threat from missile attack by its neighbors, which raises serious concerns for the United States. AFIMDA's goals are focused on enhancing public awareness, education and discussion of missile defense options for Israel. This process is essential to help develop an informed American public, and to make progress on US interests in achieving comprehensive missile defense that can help safeguard Israel's population and achieve related US objectives. AFIMDA chapters in Los Angeles and New York are working to accomplish these goals -- educating the public about the complexities of missile defense and the need for strong public involvement and support.
